Westmeath people to have say on transport

People in Westmeath who travel to the capital for work, college, sporting events, shopping, or socialising are being urged to have their say on the future of travel links to the Greater Dublin Area.

Over 2,000 people have already logged on to the Dublin Transportation Office’s (DTO ) www.2030vision.ie consultation website to give their views on how to improve transport in the region. The consultation will run until Sunday, March 22.

Just 2 per cent of people responding to the public consultation to date were from outside the Greater Dublin Area. Eighty-six per cent were from Dublin, with 14 per cent of responses coming from counties Meath, Kildare, and Wicklow.

John Henry, chief executive of the DTO, launched the public consultation in early February. It is aimed at putting the public’s needs at the heart of the Government’s long term planning for transport to and around the capital. The final 2030 Vision strategy will be published in early 2010.

Last year over 3,500 people took part in the first part of the DTO’s consultation which focused on finding out what the public wanted in the new transport strategy.

To have your say on transport to and from Dublin, visit www.2030vision.ie, or to request a consultation leaflet, lo-call 1890 222030 before the consultation ends.
