McStay remaining upbeat despite loss

Despite suffering a 0-16 to 2-9 Allianz Football League defeat to Donegal, Roscommon manager Kevin McStay was happy with aspects of his team’s display at Dr Hyde Park.

A late Conor Devaney goal brought Roscommon level, but Donegal’s Eoin McHugh fired over a brilliant winning point.

“It’s very hard to take. We put so much into the game, but it didn’t work out,” McStay remarked. “However, I can’t fault the effort. It was an outrageous effort.”

Ciarain Murtagh had netted an opening period major for Roscommon, but Donegal, with Ciaran Thompson and Michael Murphy effectively earned the spoils.

“The never-say-die attitude was pleasing,” McStay said. “When you are a manager or a coach you look for your team to give absolutely everything. I thought our boys did that in the first half and the second half, and after a number of setbacks they still ground it out.”
