Moate ready for Christmas Market this Sunday

It’s one of the biggest and most successful events on the Moate calendar and it’s gearing up to be an even bigger success this year with a greater variety of stalls and entertainment on offer. The popular Christmas Market will take place in Moate town centre this Sunday, December 11 from 3-7pm. The demand for stall places has been stronger than ever, with all places fully booked out.

This will be the third Moate Christmas Market, and the organising committee are working hard to build on the tremendous success of previous markets.

Chairman of the Moate Partnership Group Christmas Market committee, Cllr Michael O’Brien, is delighted with the level of interest in the market again this year.

“We have a wonderful committee and we’ve been working hard to try and build on the success of previous years. I’d like to thank Westmeath County Council for their continued support for our market through grant funding; without their support it would be very difficult to run this event.

“This year we’ll be utilising more of the town centre space on both sides of the main street including the new civic plaza. When I set up the market in 2014 my aim was to create a market that would appeal to shoppers, bring footfall into the town, and generate greater economic activity, and with the help of our hardworking committee and volunteers we have been successful in achieving this.

“People talk about the market right throughout the year. It brings so many people into town on that day, there’s such a great festive and community spirit and it creates a huge level of economic activity for local traders and stall holders. It is much more than a market, with lots of street entertainment to cater for all the family. I would encourage everyone to come along and make it another wonderful festive market experience this year,” said Cllr O’Brien.

The market will have the best of homemade Irish produce, including a wide range of local produce, fine foods, arts, crafts, jewellery, and many Christmas gift ideas. There’ll be lots of street entertainment including live music, carol singing, a Christmas magic show, a kids fancy dress competition, an amusements area, and face painting.

Santa Claus will be visiting the Christmas Market grotto where he will meet and greet children and give out small gifts. Please note there will be no charge to see Santa.
