Happy camping this summer at Roscommon Arts Centre

Roscommon Arts Centre has a fantastic line-up of summer camps for kids aged four and above this July and August. Whether it's singing, dancing, drama, or Lego, they may have just the summer activity for someone you know!

In July their mini-camps for pre-school and juniors, Singskool, rolls into town. Early childhood music specialists Heidi and Roisin host these camps, with Mini-Melodies aimed at 3-4 year-olds and Treble Makers designed with 5-6 year-olds in mind. These fun sessions are about playing instruments, conducting, dancing, and exploring music literacy. Sessions run over three mornings for approximately one hour 15 minutes, from Tuesday, July 19 to Thursday, July 21.

For kids aged eight and over, the ever-popular Lego stop-motion movie camp Brickflicks is back and this time, the lads have made it into a two-day workshop, with sessions for those who’ve attended previous Brickflicks events and also sessions for beginners.

Over the two-day camp, participants will design sets, script their stories, add their sound effects, and make cool stop-motion films using their favourite Lego™ characters. Feedback from previous Brickflicks events has been very positive and the team at the Arts Centre are looking forward to seeing what the budding moviemakers will produce this time around. Camp dates are Tuesday and Wednesday, August 23 and 24, with beginner sessions taking place in the mornings and afternoon sessions reserved for advanced participants.

Roscommon Youth Theatre’s summer camp is a perfect taster for young people with an interest in all things theatre. Suitable for ages 12-18, participants will have the chance to devise, create, script, and ultimately produce a new piece of theatre under the guidance of Youth Theatre director Catherine Simon in this five-day camp. With existing youth theatre members taking part, it will also be an opportunity to learn about what happens at their weekly sessions, which re-commence in September and which are currently open for new members. This camp takes place from Monday to Friday, July 11-15 and booking is via Catherine on (086 ) 8747024.

Majella Flanagan’s Theatriks is the second week-long camp and this one is for younger children, aged 7-14. Majella is well known in Roscommon as she runs her own school of performing arts. Her Theatriks camp will be a chance to explore all things theatrical – acting, singing, and dancing and there will even be a short performance for family and friends at the end of the week on the arts centre stage. The camp runs from Monday to Friday, August 8-12, daily from 10am – 3pm.

There is limited availability on some of the camps, so to avoid disappointment do contact the arts centre box office today on (090 ) 6625824 – happy camping!
