Clara Musical Society presents 9 to 5 The Musical

Members of Clara Musical Society are hard at work getting ready to present 9 to 5 The Musical in the GAA centre, Clara, from April 12 to 16.

Based on the 1981 film of the same name, the show tells the story of three co-workers, Violet played by Amanda Cunningham, Doralee played by Natalee Kelly and Judy played by Karen Monaghan, who form a strong triumvirate through their mutual dissatisfaction with workplace conditions and their sexist, obnoxious boss Franklin Hart, played by John Conroy.

After fantasising about making things better, the women work together to help improve both their personal and professional situations. The story is packed with gags and great comedy set pieces.

Under the direction and musical baton of Alan Recks and with an eight-piece live band, Dolly Parton’s score is brought to life with great aplomb. The score contains three of her solo hits, ‘Shine like the Sun’, ‘Change It’, and the title number ‘Nine to Five’. Lea Carroll, the group’s choreographer, has interpreted Dolly’s score wonderfully, ensuring the show bounces off the stage full of vim and vigour.

This is a highly engaging show that achieves a winning mix of feminist indignation, raucous good humour, and a few genuinely touching moments. If you fancy a little Dolly in your life, plenty of laughs, and some great live entertainment, head on down to the GAA centre, Clara, between April 12 and 16. Dolly, the queen of country herself, might even pop in to say hello!

Tickets are priced at €12 for Tuesday and Wednesday night and €16 from Thursday to Saturday. Family tickets are available for Saturday night, with two adults and two children costing €50. Booking can be made online at www.clarams.com or by phoning (087 ) 9366247.
