Prospective students invited to AIT open day this weekend

Prospective third level students in Westmeath and beyond are invited to open days taking place at Athlone Institute of Technology (AIT ) this Friday and Saturday, November 13 and 14.

The events will particularly be of interest to those who are applying to the CAO in 2016, as well as those who will be making their college choices in the next year or two. The open days will feature a number of talks and presentations about courses offered by AIT, with a particular focus on new degrees starting in September 2016.

Amongst the new programmes are degrees in quantity surveying, animation and illustration, digital marketing, and social care. Representatives of SUSI will also have an exhibition booth at the event and will deliver a talk on applying for grants and what is involved in the process.

Visitors to the open day will also have an opportunity to tour AIT’s campus, including laboratories, lecture halls, sports facilities and the new AIT International Arena. More than €120 million has been invested in AIT’s campus since 2000, making it one of the most modern third level institutions in the country.

AIT’s communications and marketing manager, Brian Lynch, said that the event would be of direct benefit to CAO applicants: “This is an ideal opportunity to find out further information about the courses that you’ve applied for. Making your college choices is a really important decision and our aim is to help students make the right decision in every way that we can.

“Fifth years and TY students will also find the open day of benefit, as they choose their subjects for the Leaving Cert and start thinking that little bit earlier about what they would like to do next.”
