Mental health programme planned by GROW Ireland

The Midlands branch of GROW Ireland is presenting a four-week programme entitled ‘Understanding and Minding Your Mental Health’.

The programme is commencing on Thursday, October 15, at 7.30pm in the Prince of Wales Hotel, Athlone. The first week of the programme deals with understanding mental health and threats to mental health. The speakers will be Assumpta Lyons and John Farren of GROW Midland Region.

The second week of the programme commences on October 22 with the topic ‘resilience’. The guest speaker is Stella O’Malley, a counsellor with the National Counselling Institute of Ireland. Week three will commence on October 29, when the topic will be managing stress and anxiety. The guest speaker is Derry O’Malley, who is a human givens therapist.

For the fourth and final week of the programme, commencing November 5, the topic is how GROW works and this talk will be given by Christine Fitzgerald who is national programme co-ordinator with GROW.

The aim of this programme is to promote community awareness around mental health issues and to open up discussion and inform people about supports. We live in a time when a lot of people are experiencing difficulties, financial, emotional, physical, and psychological. GROW hopes that this four-week programme will provide information around how to mind your mental health in challenging times and direct people towards the supports that are available.
