Two new programmes for Athlone with Westmeath Sports Partnership

As a part of the Athlone Healthy Town initiative, two new sports programmes will be delivered in Athlone for the first time.

The first programme, ‘Men on the Move,’ is aimed at men who have been away from sport for a while and are looking for a programme to get them motivated again. This programme is being supported and hosted by AIT Sport in its state-of-the-art new gym and is running in conjunction with Athlone Healthy Town. The programme consists of two sessions a week for six weeks, with the aim of completing a 5km by the end of that period.

The second programme, the ‘Go for Life Games Blitz’ is aimed at older people. It was piloted last year in Westmeath and the plan is to roll it out countywide. The games consist of three different throwing challenges which were very well received during the pilot programme. Members from Men’s Shed, ICA, and Active Retirement groups are encouraged to attend and give these new games a try.
