Introduction to woven tapestry with artist Frances Crowe

Athlone Arts and Tourism is delighted to announce a new Woven Tapestry course led by fibre artist Frances Crowe. The four-week course will begin on Saturday May 9 in Luan Gallery and will run on four consecutive Saturdays.

During this programme, participants will be introduced to the warp and the weft, receive expert tuition on knotting techniques, and weaving plain, diagonal and curved lines, and how to make various patterns. Everyone will be given a tapestry frame and will put on a 6” warp using warping cotton. At the end of the course students will be encouraged to design and weave their own wall art piece, or a functional object such as a table mat or a shoulder bag.

This course is tailored to people with no experience in tapestry and for those who wish to refresh basic skills.

This course is ideal for adults and young adults. It is also suitable for anyone preparing a portfolio for fashion or art colleges. As the woven tapestry course caters for a small number of participants only, early booking is essential.

For further information on the course and to reserve your place contact the Luan Gallery on (090 ) 6442154.
