Art and design exhibition by students of design

Abbey Road Artists’ Studios are host to a group show featuring the work of design students currently attending AIT’s BA in Graphic Design, BA in Design (Communications ), and BA (Honours ) in Design in Visual Communications.

The exhibition officially opens tonight, Thursday April 30 at 4pm, with guest speaker artist and illustrator Steven Doogan. Abbey Road will be open May 1, 5, 6, and 7 from 11am-4pm for anyone wishing to see the exhibition.

This is the fourth year of what has become an important collaboration between the design students in AIT and Athlone’s Visual Arts Fringe Festival programme which runs in conjunction with RTE’s All Ireland Drama Festival. Participating in this community-based art and cultural event is a highlight in the design students’ calendar, as each year brings new and exciting challenges and collaborations.

This student exhibition reflects the multidisciplinary practices inherent in design programmes at Athlone Institute of Technology where the students are encouraged to develop and communicate their ideas through visual communications, image making, animation, performance, and other practices. The students collaborate with other learners on related programmes of study at the institute, and are further informed by the influence of guest speakers.

This heady mix of ideas, practice, participation, and influence has produced a range of visually diverse, exciting, and intellectually engaged work that will be on show at Abbey Road Artists’ Studios.
