Smash hit musical Hairspray opens in the Dean Crowe

The Dean Crowe Theatre will open its doors this weekend to the Broadway smash hit musical Hairspray. Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Hairspray is a big, bouncy beehive of a musical, piled high with laughter, romance, and deliriously tuneful songs.

The cast of this smash hit musical are busy rehearsing for this feel-good, singing and dancing extravaganza. In the lead role of Tracy Turnblad is Ballinasloe native Jennifer Clogher. Paul Holloway will star as Tracy’s mother Edna Turnblad, Bernard Coyle as Wilbur Turnblad, and Jack Quinn as Link Larkin. Hairspray will also feature Joan Larkin as Velma Von Tussle, Ayomide Adeleye and Shoro Omotosho will share the role of Little Inez, Caoimhe Crowe O’Connor as Penny Pingleton, Lucia Evans as Motormouth Maybelle, Sammy Rosney as Seaweed, Charles Doherty as Corny Collins, and Amy Kelly as Amber Von Tussle.

“We’re delighted to bring this award-winning musical to the Dean Crowe Theatre,” said Paschal Gough, chairman of Athlone Musical Society.

“We know our audience will delight in this brilliant, high-energy show that has been one of the most talked-about musicals in years. And it’s wonderful to be working with our new creative production team, Alfie Kilduff, Nicole McDonald, Ger Madden, and Heather Shine.”
