1.40am - Mullingar-Coole is over. All six seats filled after ninth count - McDermott, Hill, and Dollard all elected without reaching quota. That's all from Finian Coghlan in Mullingar Park Hotel... Where we must add they were very generous with the coffee this morning as all the Local Election boxes were being tallied. It's just down to Athlone now. (Did we say that already? ) 

1.35am - Sixth count in from Athlone. Still only Boxer and Hogan elected. Expecting the next two counts to bring home the final five....

1.16am - Mullingar-Kilbeggan results from tenth count in. Duncan elected on 1,432, Glynn and Clarke deemed elected without reacting the quota.

1.12am - Longford-Westmeath's newest TD says: "I'm very emotional. I wish I was standing in the count centre in Athlone. I am really honoured and frateful to the people of Longford-Westmeath for giving me the opportunity to represent them. I will do what I promised and represent Longford-Westmeath with a heart and a half."

1.09am - Fifth count in Athlone. No election, Joe Devery eliminated. Tom Farrell expected to get in on next count. Returning officer predicts three more counts will see the next five seats filled. We're here for the night folks.

12.58am -Count 7 for Mullingar-Coole OPeter Burke 1534 and John Shaw 1588 - both elected. 

Shaw's surplus 142 could bring Fagan above Dollard.

Hogan eliminated. Sevent count will see 11254 being redistributed between Gab and Aengus. This is the last count... Technically it's anyone's seat! McFadden is over 5,000 ahead of O'Rourke. So it's up to the wire. Alot of Hogan's votes hvae no number 2... from the tallies... And a lot went to Boxer and other Ind.

5.20pm - Athlone - Tallies have suggested Athlone town councillor Jim Henson won't get a seat. Speaking to the Advertiser Henson said that he is not optimistic about getting one of the seven seats in the Athlone Area. "The Labour vote is down across the country. On the plus this shows a very strong message to the Government, and is a positive step towards change." The former mayor of Athlone said he will still work with Labour. 

5pm -Athlone - SF councillor Paul Hogan says he is delighted with his own vote for the by-election and is looking forward to potentially working with two new SF councillors on Westmeath Co Co.

4.45pm - Kenagh - FF's Aengus O'Rourke admits the by-election seat is McFadden's to lose, though he says he is delighted with his vote for his first shot at a Dail seat. "It is a fascinating contest in the Athlone Area, but I'm pleased that we managed to get so much of the Longford vote out," he said. He is predicting FF to take nine of 20 seats. Fellow Athlone candidate, Kevin 'Boxer' Moran said that if it was a four-seater election, I'd be in line for a fourth seat."

4.30pm - We're in Athlone now! We've left Finian behind in Mullingar with the Mullingar-Coole and Mullingar-Kilbeggan counts and we've all eyes on Athlone...and Kenagh of course!
