Speaking at the launch of the 62nd All Ireland Drama Festival in the Abbey Theatre, the festival director commented on the rich and varied programme on offer at this year’s festival, with many new plays not seen before on the Athlone stage. Mr MacCarrick went on to say that with the expanded fringe programme, Athlone is poised to welcome the many visitors expected to the town between May 1-9. The festival director paid tribute to festival sponsors RTÉ for their professional input and partnership which has elevated amateur drama to an unprecedented level nationally.
