Darkness into Light charity walks for Midlands launched

Towns across the Midlands are preparing for the annual Darkness Into Light early morning event to raise money for Pieta House.

Taking place on Saturday May 10, Darkness Into Light is a unique, early morning fundraising event which begins in darkness at 4.15am as thousands of people walk or run a 5km route while dawn is breaking.

CEO of suicide and self-harm crisis centre Pieta House, Joan Freeman, launched Darkness Into Light 2014 in The Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar on Tuesday this week.

Local events will take place in Mullingar, Athlone, Tullamore, and Longford.

Athlone is one of 19 new venues for Darkness Into Light this year, with Athlone Town Stadium the starting point.

The Mullingar event starts and finishes at Columb Barracks, passing Presentation and Loreto convents as well as St Finian’s College along the way.

The Tullamore event starts at Tullamore Rugby Club and takes in Charleville Castle, while the Longford event takes off from Mall Park.
