Free Alzheimer’s talk

The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland in conjunction with Whelehans Pharmacy are hosting a free Dementia and Alzheimer’s Talk in the Greville Arms Hotel, Mullingar on Wednesday April 2 at 7pm.

Dementia is an umbrella term used to describe various conditions which damage brain cells and lead to a loss of brain function over time. It describes a loss of memory, intellect, rationality, social skills, and normal emotional reactions. The symptoms of dementia develop gradually over a period of years.

Symptoms of Alzheimer’s can include: getting stuck for words or language difficulties; forgetting things – names, dates, places, faces; loss of interest in things once enjoyed; difficulty in performing everyday tasks; disorientation in familiar surroundings; personality changes; misplacing items; and low mood.

Pharmacist Eamonn Brady from Whelehans Pharmacy explains that “there are approximately 40,000 dementia sufferers in Ireland. Eleven new cases of dementia are diagnosed on a daily basis.”

“It is very difficult for family members to see a loved one’s personality change or perhaps not even recognising those closest to them. However there is help and support from the likes of The Alzheimer’s Society of Ireland”.

Book your free place by calling Whelehans on (044 ) 9334591.
