The first SVP Paddy Run charity event takes place at 10am on the morning of St Patrick’s Day, Sunday March 17, starting at the Regional Sports Centre, Athlone.

Those who would like to participate are encouraged to register in advance on www.racedates.ie Registration will be available on the morning but it may be busy, and registering in advance helps the organisers plan a more fun event on the day.

There are in fact three events happening on the morning - a 5km walk, a 10km run, and a 5km run. There will be free t-shirts and goodie bags, snacks, and treats.

The plan is to roll this charity event out nationally and internationally next year. Events for this year include Boston, Camp Shamrock (South Lebanon ), Dublin, Dundalk, and Limerick. The beauty of this idea is that all proceeds raised stay local. Ronnie Delaney contacted the organisers recently about promoting a ‘Paddy Run’ in Melbourne next year, which marks the 48th anniversary of his winning gold for Ireland there.

Please register online for the event, come along on the day, and bring a friend!
