Westmeath Rose, Aisling launches Moate Easter parade

The newly crowned Westmeath Rose Aisling Baker was on hand to launch the first ever Moate Easter parade, which takes place this Easter Sunday April 8.

Come to Moate with your Easter bonnet and all the frills upon it, and join in the Easter fun. Mullingar singer Conor Quinn of The Voice of Ireland fame, along with Westmeath Rose for 2012, Aisling Baker, will take part in the parade.

They will be joined by up to 80 floats from far and wide in what is gearing up to be a great day for all the family. Starting from the Carmelite at 4.30pm sharp, the grand marshall Martin Rattigan will lead the parade through the town before ending at Tuar Ard.

There will be a prize on the day for the best dressed bonnet. Activities and events on the day include an Easter egg hunt for children up to 10 years of age at Tuar Ard from 2pm, and live entertainment on the reviewing stand from 3-4.15pm. Entertainment includes Eamon and Carol Behan and Family, The Trad Boys, and the All-Ireland Scor champion for recitation/storytelling Peter Dolan. Other events include an Easter shop window display and a display of colouring competition entries from local schools.

Local floats, vintage cars, and tractors along with the Athlone Youth Marching Band, Clara Town Band, The Ravens Marching Band, Attitude Dance, One to One Circus, and The Celtic Blondes will be among those taking part.

The Moate Partnership, who are organising the parade, have been very much encouraged by the level of interest and support that they have received from the local community and would like to welcome everyone to come along on the day and join in the Easter fun.
