Top professional returns to guide young Midlands golfers

Anders Forsbrand will be the head instructor for a junior golf camp at Glasson Hotel and Golf Club in Athlone during the Easter break.

For the fourth consecutive year, young golfers from the area will have a unique opportunity to receive top quality coaching from Anders and his team.

Having qualified for the senior tour last year, Anders competed in 11 tournaments, finishing as high as 13th in Portugal. In 2004, Bernard Langer named Anders as his vice-captain for his victorious Ryder Cup team. Today, Anders trains the Austrian Golf Federation team players and is a frequent commentator for European Tour events on television.

“I am excited to revisit Ireland and lead this camp. I look forward to seeing how the campers have improved,” Anders said. “Golf has taught me a lot and I want to pass on what I have learnt to the next generation.”

The Game Changer junior golf camp (April 2-5 ) has been organised as a partnership between local charity OM Ireland, FCA Golf (Fellowship of Christian Athletes ), and Glasson Golf Club. Open to golfers age 12-17 from local clubs, the camp will cost just €95 for four days of instruction and play (€135 to include catered lunch ).

In addition to professional instruction, each day participants will also focus on life lessons which explore characteristics like honesty, openness, perspective, and experience. Coaches will share from their own personal experience as golfers and use principles from the Bible.

“OM Ireland is delighted to welcome back Anders and the team this year. We believe that young people need not only need to be taught good values, but they also need to see positive role models,” explained OM Ireland director Mike Mullins. “Anders Forsbrand is a Christian and in my opinion, he is an excellent role model for these teenagers.”
