Exhibition of selected works from the collection of Limerick City Gallery of Art

An exhibition of selected works from the collection of Limerick City Gallery of Art opens on Saturday November 8 at Roscommon Arts Centre. The exhibition which can be viewed during box office opening hours continues until December 13.

Limerick City Gallery of Art has a collection of over 800 artworks and also holds the National Collection of Contemporary Drawing. Begun in 1948 with donations from artists and collectors, this significant collection of Irish Art continues to grow with works acquired from the gallery’s ongoing exhibition programme. The works chosen for Roscommon Arts Centre represent some of Ireland’s best known artists including Dorothy Cross, Alice Maher, Sean Lynch, Michael Warren, John Shinnors, and Christine Mackey. In conjunction with this exhibition, a number of events and educational materials will be available to school groups and to the wider public. Currently many of these free tours are fully booked. Talks In association with Limerick City Gallery of Art, a public presentation about the selected work on display and LCGA’s permanent collection, will be given by Mike Fitzpatrick, director LCGA on Wednesday November 12 at 1pm. This talk is free of charge and open to all members of the public and groups. As well as being director/curator of Limerick City Gallery, Mike was also Irish Commissioner, 52nd Venice Biennale. A member of IKT, Organisation of International Curators, he has organised over 80 exhibitions at LCGA, which include Tina O’Connell, Andrew Kearney, Caroline McCarthy, Gerard Byrne, Ann Ryan, Sean Lynch, Jack Donovan, Amanda Coogan, Mark O’Kelly, Donald Teskey, Tom Molloy, William Kentridge, and Lindsay Seers. Mike also curated the Visual Strand of the Kilkenny Arts Festival 2005 and 2006 with the exhibition Failure.
