Sweet Auburn wins silver at Barbershop Convention

Local barbershop group Sweet Auburn took home the silverware last weekend when they competed in the international barbershop convention, held in Sligo.

With over 40 groups from all over Europe and the US taking part, Sweet Auburn beat off stiff competition to be awarded the silver medal. The group sang an upbeat rhythm song ‘I Got The World on a String’ and the lovely ballad ‘Could It Be MeThis Time’. "Our scores were very high and we were just a few marks away from the gold this year,” said Marie Power, musical director. ”There were six judges from the UK, two in each category of music, presentation, and we scored high in all categories."

The group will compete again in two weeks time in the Sligo International Choral Festival. Sweet Auburn is a fun-loving barbershop ladies’ chorus of women from Athlone, Roscommon, Mullingar, Ballinasloe, and Laois under the directorship of Marie Power from Ballinasloe. The group welcomes any new members interested in singing.
