€20,000 for six local projects in Westmeath

Voting for the 2009/2010 AIB Better Ireland Programme closed at midnight on March 15 with an overwhelming 602,172 votes received online and by text.

AIB’s two branches in County Westmeath will now award €10,000 each to their three winning projects. In all, six children’s projects in Westmeath will share in the AIB Better Ireland funding of €20,000.

The three short listed projects per branch were ranked depending on the number of votes they received from their local community. The project that ranked in first place for each branch will now receive €5,000, second place, €3,000 and third place €2,000.

In the Mullingar area Down Syndrome Longford/Westmeath will receive €5,000; Saplings School for autistic children will receive €3,000; and the Irish Wheelchair Association will receive €2,000. Meanwhile in the Athlone area the Irish Wheelchair Association will receive the top prize fund of €5,000; the Midlands Regional Youth Service in Athlone will reveive €3,000; and the Dean Kelly National School will receive €2,000.
