Delight your children with original ballets

Shannon Dance Academy presents An Evening of Dance, on Saturday March 27 at 8pm and Sunday March 28 at 3pm at the Dean Crowe Theatre, Athlone.

This delightful production features two specially created ballets, An Enchanted Toyshop and La Vie Parisienne. In the first piece, an enchanted fairy magically awakens some of our favourite toys and we are treated to graceful Angelina Ballerina and her Mouseling friends, High School Musical cheerleaders, twirling teddies, sparring chess pieces, and dancing dollies. The second act opens by transporting the audience to the ambience of a bustling Parisian street café with French maids, posh ladies, street artists, and balloon sellers. As evening approaches we enter the famous Parisian cabaret scene with can-can dancers, 1920s flappers, and the mesmerising music of Edith Piaf and Charles Aznavour.

Shannon Dance Academy is widely recognised as the centre for excellence for ballet in Athlone. The academy, established in 2002, offers children’s ballet and modern dance classes from ages four to 18 and it is well known that ballet is the essential foundation for all other dance forms. Principal Judith Sibley has danced all over the world, has tutored internationally for the Royal Academy of Dance, was the regional chairperson of the RAD for six years, is on the panel of Irish Ballet Forum, and is artistic director of both Chrysalis Dance Company and Youth Ballet West.

Patricia McDermott and Leighton Morrison who are both teaching alongside Judith at the Academy will be guest starring in An Evening of Dance.
