Garda action in South Roscommon welcome - Naughten

Local TD Denis Naughten has welcomed the commitment by the Gardai to establish new protocols to improve policing in South Roscommon in conjunction with local Garda stations.

Superintendent Paul Glynn has informed County Roscommon Joint Policing Forum, in response to Deputy Naughten and as a result of concerns raised by the local community, that the Gardai in Roscommon have agreed a new protocol with the superintendents in the adjoining districts of Athlone, Ballinasloe, and Birr.

Deputy Naughten said that an agreed protocol is now in place which should ensure that Gardai are able to provide an appropriate response within the shortest possible time.

“Issues regarding the new Garda boundaries have been clarified with the adjoining Garda stations and this should help in assisting the public when reporting an incident,” explained Deputy Naughten.

He complimented the Gardai on the action which they have taken to address local concerns, and it is hoped that these protocols will address these issues.

The policing forum was also informed that plans are afoot for the construction of a new Garda station in Clonark, which will improve the Garda presence locally.
