Traffic controlling measures a high priority for Mount Temple

Local Independent Councillor, Michael O’Brien, will make the provision of traffic calming measures for Mount Temple village one of his priorities in this year’s Municipal District council roads programme.

Cllr. O’Brien raised the issue for the second time in the past year at the February meeting of Athlone Municipal District.

“I have been continuously inundated with representations from people looking for traffic calming measures to be put in place in Mount Temple. I first raised this issue in April of 2018, and following that, the local authority undertook a speed survey of the village which showed that the average speed was 58kph”

“Mount Temple is a busy village, with a consistent flow of motorists passing through it every day. If more people obeyed the speed limits we would have no need for traffic calming measures at all, but unfortunately we have a serious issue with speeds right across the district, so we must do all we can to ensure the health and safety of our community by providing such measures.

“The provision of traffic calming in Mount Temple can be considered in the context of the members priorities and the funding available, as part of the 2019 Roads Programme, so I will be including their provision in my list of priorities,” Cllr. O’Brien remarked.
