Westmeath sports organisations urged to apply for Grant funding

Westmeath sports clubs and organisations are encouraged to prepare applications for the Sports Capital Grants process for which €40 million has been made available.

Longford/Westmeath Fine Gael TD, Peter Burke, confirmed that his colleague Minister for Sport, Brendan Griffin TD, has made €40 million available for sports clubs and organisations to invest in relevant infrastructure under the Sports Capital Programme.

“I want to see as many local Westmeath clubs and organisations as possible benefit from this scheme and I urge all involved in club management and volunteers to prepare the necessary paperwork for their applications in advance to ensure they can take advantage of the scheme.

“I lobbied the Minister last year on behalf of a number of Westmeath clubs with a sum of €1.1 million being spread across the county in funding which I know has gone a long way in small and big clubs alike,” the Deputy commented.

Deputy Burke outlined the process behind making an application for funding.

“Clubs and sports organisations looking to apply should register now at www.sportscapitalprogramme.ie Applications can only be made online from 9am on Friday, September 7 until 5pm on Friday, October 19, 2018.

“The Sports Capital Programme was reinstated by the last Fine Gael government in 2012, after it had been cut by Fianna Fáil in the wake of the economic crash. It represents an excellent value for money for society and the investment goes to those who are best placed to spend the money where it is needed. “t is crucial we invest in sport and the health of our population, particularly with obesity is on the rise. Investing in sport is good for the health of the nation, both literally and economically. This scheme has proved very successful in getting much needed funding to our local clubs,” the Fine Gael TD stated.
