The Stunning to play the Radisson Hotel

Hit Galway band The Stunning rock up to the Radisson Blu Hotel on Saturday May 5 in what is certain to be a night of great entertainment.

For those of you who grew up in the 90s The Stunning need little introduction. Hailing from Galway and forming as a band in 1987, The Stunning experienced near immediate success, with their first top 20 single coming inside their first year in the shape of "Got to get Away". This was followed by two top 10 hits.

But it was their debut album - Paradise in the Picturehouse - that really launched them, spending five weeks at the top of the charts in 1990. Featuring hits like "Brewing up a storm", "Romeo's on fire", "Half past two" and "Got to get Away", the album defined the very best of what The Stunning had to offer, making them a household name around the country.

The second album - Once Around the World - went straight into the number one spot and contained the hit singles "Heads", "Everything that Rises", "She’s on my Mind" and "Mr Ginger". The Stunning were then one of the most successful bands in Ireland.

Tours in the UK and the US followed, however, the record deal the band had hoped for did not. Nevertheless, in 1993 they released an EP of cover versions entitled Deja Voodoo, which reached number six in the charts. That summer they played two consecutive nights in the Galway Arts Festival which featured on the live album Tightrope, which was also released that year.

The band chose to split in 1994, only to re-release their hit album Paradise in the Picture House nine years later in 2003, which went to number two in the Irish charts.

In 2006, they re-issued the live album Tightrope and completed an eight date Irish tour.

In 2015, The Stunning went into Grouse Lodge studios, Westmeath, to record new material and that summer they performed several festival shows around Ireland.

Brighten up my Life, the Stunning’s first original single since 1993, was released in May, 2017. This was followed by a sold-out show in Dublin's Olympia Theatre on October 6, and a second in March, 2018.

Twice Around the World, the band's first studio album in 26 years, was released on March 16 this year. It features re-recordings of songs from 1992's Once Around the World, a cover of The Walls' "Carrying the Fire" from their 2012 album Stop the Lights, and two new singles, "Brighten up my Life" and "Always You"
